Info for new leaders

This is going to be fun. Here is everything you need to do to get started — it takes an evening, most of it online.

Getting started

  1. Fill out a New Adult application online and complete the Youth Protection Training course — about 25 minutes. You already have a my.scouting.org account from when your child joined. The pack covers the cost of your registration: email your receipt to pack345sf@gmail.com.
  2. Complete the California AB506 requirements as described on the California Scouting / Golden Gate Area Council website. The pack reimburses your LiveScan fingerprinting — same deal, send us the receipt.
  3. Pick up a handbook for your role and a uniform at the Scout Shop. Full uniform is encouraged but not required.
  4. Get added as a pack leader in ScoutBook so you have the permissions to edit cub data and email parents. Email us if you haven’t been added.
  5. Do the training that interests you. Start with the Quick Start and “Before Your First Meeting” modules for your position on my.scouting.org. Watch the calendar for in-person council sessions and the University of Scouting.

The adult uniform

A tan shirt, neckerchief slide, blue epaulets, and the patches: the Golden Gate Area Council shoulder patch (not the Pac-Sky one), the Pack “3” “4” “5” numbers, the sleeve patch for your role, and the purple World Crest circle. We’ll give you a pack neckerchief, or use one of your own — an Eagle Scout neckerchief, for instance.
