About Pack 345

A volunteer-run Cub Scout pack based in West Portal, with families from all across San Francisco, Daly City and South San Francisco.

Our history

Cub Scout Pack 345 was founded in 1984 by the West of Twin Peaks Lions Club, which sponsored the pack until 1993, when the club disbanded.

Elks Lodge #3 then began chartering Pack 345, and we enjoyed that partnership for the next twenty-nine years — the Elks still host our Blue & Gold Dinner every spring. The Forest Hill Association chartered us after that.

Today Pack 345 is chartered by the SF Scout Skill Academy. We’re grateful to every organization that has backed scouting in this city, and to the current one for taking us on.

What we’re for

The pack’s volunteer leaders are committed to giving girls and boys in kindergarten through 5th grade educational experiences, and to instilling good citizenship, moral character, physical fitness and environmental awareness.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

How the pack is run

Entirely by parents. The Cubmaster leads the program; den leaders plan and run their den’s meetings; the Pack Committee handles the administration and meets quarterly. Every one of those people has a kid in the pack and a day job. Training is provided for all of it, and nobody expects you to arrive knowing anything.

Parents who take on a volunteer role spend a few hours a month on it. It is a good way to be around your own kid at an age where they still want you there. Thinking about volunteering?

Where we meet

All over the city, on purpose. This year the pack gathers at Parkside Square, the Sea Scout Base, Ocean Beach and the Elks Lodge; campouts take us to Chabot Regional Park, Camp Tamarancho and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Dens meet separately, wherever suits their own families — a house, a park, a library.

We’re based in West Portal, San Francisco, but our families come from all across San Francisco, Daly City and South San Francisco. See the 2026–27 program

Where we stand

Pack 345 does not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion or ability to pay. We said so in 2013, two years before the national organization changed its policy, and we have reaffirmed it since. Read the statement and its history
