Statement of Non-Discrimination

Everyone is welcome here

Pack 345 welcomes any scout and any adult leader. We evaluate leaders solely on their behavior, integrity and character.

There are no geographic, gender, race, religious, sexual-orientation or any other kind of restrictions on joining this pack. If the financial cost would be a barrier for your family, get in touch — we will find a way.

How we got here

In 2013, the national Boy Scouts of America still required packs and troops to exclude LGBTQ scouts and leaders. The parents and leaders of Pack 345 believed that policy was unjust, and said so in writing.

We sent a letter to the National Council titled Letter to the National Council Regarding Policy on Homosexuality. At the same time, the Pack Committee adopted its own 2013 Cub Scout Pack 345 Statement of Non-Discrimination.

Both documents rejected the national prohibition outright. They explained that, as a diverse pack, we would continue to select our leaders solely on their behavior, integrity and character — and that we would welcome any scout, regardless of their sexual orientation.

In 2015 the national board of the Boy Scouts of America removed all its restrictions regarding the sexual orientation of Scouts and Scout leaders. Pack 345 applauded that decision by re-affirming our 2013 statement.

Today

The national policy now matches the practice Pack 345 has held since inception. Our current statement was adopted by the Pack Committee on August 31, 2020.

A Scout is Brave, and we will continue to bravely face any form of discrimination that threatens the diversity and inclusivity of Pack 345. — 2020 Cub Scout Pack 345 Statement of Non-Discrimination
