How we got here

In 2013 the national Boy Scouts of America still required packs and troops to exclude LGBTQ scouts and leaders. The parents and leaders of Pack 345 believed that was unjust, and said so in writing.

We sent a letter to the National Council titled Letter to the National Council Regarding Policy on Homosexuality. At the same time, the Pack Committee adopted its own 2013 Statement of Non-Discrimination.

Both rejected the prohibition outright, and said we would keep selecting leaders solely on behavior, integrity and character — and welcome any scout, whatever their sexual orientation.

In 2015 the national board removed all its restrictions on the sexual orientation of Scouts and Scout leaders. Pack 345 marked it by re-affirming the 2013 statement.

Today

National policy now matches the practice Pack 345 has held since inception. Our current statement was adopted by the Pack Committee on August 31, 2020.
