Definitely not. We organize a few events a month and we'd love your scout at whichever ones interest you and fit your schedule. Can't make a hike this month? No problem. Missing a campout for a sports obligation or a family trip? No problem. Don't be intimidated by the calendar — it's all optional.

Kindergarten through 5th grade, boys and girls. Scouts can join at any grade level and at any point in the year, and no previous scouting experience is required — for the kid or the parent. After 5th grade, scouts move on to a Scouts BSA troop or another program like Venturing.

Yes, and that's the point. Cub Scouting is a family program — every scout participates alongside an "Akela": a parent, guardian or other caring adult. Parents stay for the whole den meeting, and we try to make sure the grown-ups have fun too.

One or two den meetings a month (usually a weeknight, usually at a member's house), one pack meeting a month, and one or two weekend activities. Parents who take on a volunteer leader role spend a few more hours a month on top of that.

No. We are not affiliated with any religion, and we never discuss religious topics at pack or den meetings — we believe that's a conversation for families to have at home. Scouts of every faith, and of none, are equally welcome here.

Two payments: the BSA and council registration fee, paid directly to Scouting America when you apply, and Pack 345 dues — $145 for 2026–27 — which cover badges, awards, supplies and insurance. Plus a one-time uniform purchase — and we lend out used uniform parts for free. If cost is a barrier, tell us; need-based scholarships exist and those conversations are confidential.

The full breakdown

All over the city — that's rather the point. This year's pack meetings are at Parkside Square, the Sea Scout Base, Ocean Beach and the Elks Lodge, and campouts take us to Chabot, Camp Tamarancho and the Santa Cruz Mountains. Dens meet separately once or twice a month at a member's home, a park or a library. Our families come from across San Francisco, Daly City and South San Francisco.

Thank you — this is going to be fun. There's a short onboarding: an adult application, Youth Protection Training, and California's AB506 requirements. The pack reimburses your registration and fingerprinting costs.
